What we collect

If you use the free calculator

Your inputs (profession, target country, savings, family situation, timeline) are stored only on your device via your browser's localStorage. Nothing is sent to our servers unless you choose to share your Japa Card or buy a Plan.

If you buy a Japa Plan, Pass, or Concierge

• Your email and name — used for delivery and receipts
• Your profile inputs (profession, target country, age, savings, family, timeline) — used to generate your personalised Roadmap
• Your payment details are handled by Paystack (NGN) or Stripe (USD); we never see or store your full card number

If you send a Japa Plan home (diaspora gift)

We collect both your email (for the receipt) and the recipient's email + name (for the Roadmap delivery). The recipient's profile inputs come from a short form they fill in after delivery — same handling as a direct buy.

Where your data goes

Anthropic (Claude API) — for Roadmap generation

To produce your personalised Roadmap we send your profile inputs (profession, target country, age, savings, family, timeline) to Anthropic's Claude API. Your email and name are never sent to the LLM.

Paystack — for payments

Card details, billing address, and transaction metadata go directly to Paystack — for both Nigerian buyers (Naira) and international buyers (USD via Paystack's multi-currency support, Apple Pay, and Amex). We receive only a transaction reference back; we never see your card number, CVV, or expiry. Paystack is PCI-DSS Level 1 compliant.

Brevo — for email delivery

Your email address and the email body (your Roadmap or receipt) are sent through Brevo (formerly Sendinblue) to land in your inbox. Brevo stores delivery logs per their privacy policy.

Netlify — hosting

This site, our functions, and our blob storage run on Netlify. Standard server logs (IP address, timestamps, requested URL) are retained per Netlify's privacy policy.

What we do NOT do

• We do not sell your data to anyone, ever
• We do not run third-party advertising or marketing pixels (Google Analytics is the only tracker, and only for aggregate page views)
• We do not share your buyer profile with visa agents, recruiters, or relocation services

How long we keep it

• Your purchase record (email, tier, transaction ref, fulfilment status) is kept for 7 years for tax and accounting compliance
• Your generated Roadmap is kept for 12 months so you can re-download it from your account
• Your profile inputs are deleted from our active stores within 30 days of fulfilment unless you have an active Japa Pass subscription (in which case we keep them for monthly intelligence updates)
• Anthropic's logs of your API request follow their own 30-day retention

Your rights

Under NDPR (Nigeria) and GDPR (where applicable), you have the right to:

• Access — get a copy of all the data we hold about you
• Correct — fix any inaccurate data
• Delete — ask us to remove your data (subject to the 7-year tax retention obligation)
• Withdraw consent — opt out of monthly intelligence updates or future communications
• Port — receive your Roadmap and profile data in a machine-readable format

To exercise any of these, email hello@japacalculator.com from the email address you used to buy. We respond within 48 hours and complete requests within 30 days.

Cookies and tracking

The only cookies we set ourselves are functional: your currency preference, your country (cached so we don't repeat the lookup), and your calculator inputs. We don't use cookies for advertising or cross-site tracking. Google Analytics 4 runs in aggregate-only mode for understanding which country guides are read most.

Changes to this policy

If we materially change how we handle data, we'll update the "Last updated" date above and email anyone with an active Japa Pass at least 14 days before changes take effect. The current version always lives at this URL.
